Who’s in Your Class? Quick Constitutional Assessment for Yoga Teachers

with Matthew Remski

Thursday, 7:40 – 9:40pm
January 5

Single workshop: $20
Series of 5: $100 ($20 each)

Everybody needs something different from yoga. How as a teacher do you diversify what you offer to serve individuals? How can you quickly assess a student’s specific needs, based on build, skin quality, and emotional mood? Ayurveda provides a comprehensive intuitive vocabulary to frame your immediate observations as a teacher, and then allows you to quickly adjust your presentation or options to serve each need more faithfully. In this interactive workshop, we’ll look at an assess each other’s bodies from a constitutional perspective, and workshop who needs to flow, who needs to be exacting, who needs grounding, who needs to slow down, and who needs an endorphin rush. Therapeutic aspects will also come up: over or under-weight, constitutional aspects of skeletal structure, injury recovery, and ideal times of day for practice. Bring clothes to move in.

Yogaspace is pleased to present this series of Ayurveda workshops with Matthew Remski the first Thursday of each month. Co-creator of The Toronto Yoga Festival, Matthew Remski is an Ayurvedic therapist who teaches courses in Ayurveda and Yoga philosophy and therapeutics in Toronto. Upcoming Workshops

February 2: The Ecological Mind: Intro to Ayurvedic Psychotherapy
What does psychotherapy feel like when it takes constitution into account? How is the therapeutic relationship influenced or guided by constitutional factors? How can an embodied psychotherapy begin to heal the split between perception and consciousness? How is the palette of emo- tions as necessary as the range of tastes? How is personal authenticity a function of well-seated fire? We’ll work with these questions and more in this introduction to a modern take on a very old approach to psychotherapy.

March 1: A Double Birth: Intro to Ayurvedic Pre/Post Natal
A beautiful tour through fertility enhancement, pregnancy experience by constitution, the humours of each trimester, diet, birth prep, birthing experience as per constitution, and the first 40 days of the mother-child bond, which Caraka says sets up both for the next 40 years of health. A fantastic introduction for pre-and-post teachers, doulas, midwives, and parents-to-be.

April 5: Pomegranates, Almond, and Ghee: Sexual Health and Enjoyment in Ayurveda
The nutritional basis of fertility. The meaning of orgasm. Love and stamina. The conditions of libido. Gender essences and dynamics. Aphrodisiac therapy. To whom are you best suited? Timing as per constitution. Frequency as per constitution. Exploring common emotional blockages that map into reticence or dryness. Sex and the phases of life. These topics and more — all up for discussion in this illuminating and encouraging presentation on the flower of Ayurvedic knowledge: reproductive health.
