Mindfulness-Based Wellness Education (MBWE) is a professional development program on stress reduction and health promotion. MBWE is modelled on Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), which was created by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn. Mindfulness practice can be understood as mental training that leads to heightened concentration and decreased reactivity. Research studies have shown benefits to a wide scope of chronic physical and mental health diseases and disorders. MBWE is designed to introduce human services professionals to the theory and practice of mindfulness meditation and encourage health promoting lifestyle decisions. Cultivating mindfulness not only benefits the person in the profession but also serves to strengthen professional relationships and the quality of work being done.

Topics Include:
• Pathophysiology of Stress & Depression
• Attention and Emotion Regulation
• Neuroplasticity, Meditation and the Brain.
• Philosophy of Mind
• Practices and Principles of Mindfulness Meditation
• Wellness Lifestyle Analysis
• Therapeutic Relationship
