Matt has been practicing yoga for 9 years. He is a student
of Hatha, Ashtanga and Vinyasa Yoga. A senior Therapeutic
Yoga and Vinyasa Fundamentals assistant, his primary teachers
are Kathryn Beet and Patricia White.
Matt shares plenty of detail for each of the postures in his
Vinyasa classes. His hands-on assists provide new students
with fundamental information about the poses and advanced
students an opportunity to deepen their practice. He creates
a gentle yet vigorous flowing class, effectively yoking the
mind to the breath and the breath to the movement. His gentle
demeanour brings a unique expression to what is a very physical
practice, drawing out the strength of each individual.
Students of all levels move through the poses with confidence
and ease as he strongly encourages them to go only so far
as they are ready to go on any given day. Individuals are
given time in the postures as well as plenty of opportunity
to fully receive them. The emphasis here is on learning to
listen to your body and allowing your practice to be guided
from within. This creates an environment of permission in
which students may let go of self-imposed limitations and
perhaps surprise themselves.
