If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away.
– Henry David Thoreau

Yoga for me has been a form of grounding. It has brought me back to the root of my dance and the core of myself, when I thought I had lost the path. It has helped me to realize my own unique presence in the world and reminded me to be strong yet flexible. It has opened my eyes to be more aware in the present and has helped me to understand, accept and move through change. Yoga has allowed me to look for and find courage, gratitude, connection, relationship and love.

My yoga practice has been shaped and inspired by my professional background and training in contemporary dance, contact dance and improvisation, somatic movement, Pilates, and through study with yoga teachers Kathryn Beet, Michael Siddal, Ante Pavlovic, Patricia White and Kaustaub Desikachar. I completed my yoga instructor training through Yogaspace (Toronto) with an advanced certificate in Healing Through Yoga.

I am a certified Pilates instructor with study in the Stott Pilates method under Kim Krauser (Nova Scotia) and the Body Harmonics method under Margot MacKinnon (Toronto). I have also completed my certification to teach Pre and Postnatal Pilates. Pilates is a practice that has helped me form longer leaner muscles. It has helped me to heal a disc herniation and to rehabilitate myself through lots of different dance injuries. I feel the knowledge I gain about my body in motion through Pilates translates easily into all forms of movement in my life, assisting me in better posture, awareness, mobility and stability as I move through space.

In my life and my artistic practice my interests lie within the realm of the experiential. I am engaged by the relationship between person, space and place . I continue to explore improvisation and the connections between landscape and the body through performance, research and teaching. I strive to bring together my love for the outdoors and my passion for movement and physical expression.

Originally from London/Grand Bend Ontario, I hold a BFA in Dance from York University and attended The Professional Training Program at The School of Toronto Dance Theatre. From 1999-2006 I was based in Halifax, Nova Scotia and returned to Toronto to further my studies. I work through my company, Eastward Moving, as a choreographer, dance artist and teacher, teaching group classes and privates sessions at my home studio and throughout the city of Toronto.
