Acupuncture is the insertion of very fine needles into points of the body to affect the movement of energy or ‘Qi’ of the body. It is the view of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) that Qi flows through the body in Channels or Meridians. Imbalance or blockage of Qi gives rise to disease and pain. Acupuncture is a branch of TCM that aims to restore proper Qi functioning to eliminate discomfort. It has been used for thousands of years in various countries all over the world to improve and maintain health.

Much of Evelyn’s practice uses distal acupuncture, a subset of traditional Chinese acupuncture. This method avoids needling the painful area, as it is thought to punish the area that is already unwell. Instead, needles are placed on the opposite side of the body so that the painful area can rest or receive other therapies (like heat, ice, or massage). Needles are usually placed below the elbow and knee, so patients can remain fully clothed. Distal acupuncture is very effective, relief is can be experienced within a minute of inserting the needle.

Acupuncture can help with:

• muscle/joint pain – weakness, sprains, injuries, sciatic pain, arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome
• headaches, migraines
• digestive complaints – constipation, diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, IBS
• insomnia, depression, anxiety

• addictions, stress management, weight loss, fatigue

Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture

Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture is a painless, non-surgical method of reducing the signs of the aging process. Sometimes referred to as an Acupuncture Facelift or Cosmetic Acupuncture, it is much more than a superficial procedure. It is a rejuvenation and revitalization process designed to help the whole body look and feel younger. The Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture treatment is based on the principles of Chinese Medicine and customized to individual needs. Specific points are chosen to address underlying imbalances and/or root causes that accelerate the aging process. Ultimately, the whole body is restored to a state of harmony to bring out the innate radiance of an individual.

Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture may erase as many as five to fifteen years from the face, with results apparent after just a few treatments. For instance:
• Fine lines may be entirely eliminated and deeper wrinkles diminished
• Bags and dark circles under the eyes can be reduced, puffiness eliminated, droopy eyelids lifted
• Jaws and cheeks firmed, double chin minimized
• Forehead and eyebrow furrows reduced and smoothed out
• Firmer skin and muscle tone overall

It is recommended to have a series of weekly treatments initially to see the desired improvements, then moving to a maintenance plan. Number of treatments needed are very individual, generally between 10-12.

Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture is contraindicated for some pituitary disorders, heart disorders, diabetes mellitus, untreated high blood pressure, for individuals who have a problem with bleeding or bruising. The procedure should not be administered during pregnancy, during a bout of a cold/flu, acute allergy, acute herpes outbreak, or during active stages of migraine headaches.

Cupping therapy is an ancient technique used to stimulate a healing response by increasing local circulation, decreasing pain, and treating deeper layers of connective tissue. Fire is inserted into a glass cup to create a suction and placed on the patient’s affected area, usually the back or legs. Depending on the intended effect, cups may stay on the area for a few minutes or glided along the body part. Cupping itself is not painful, most will find it relaxing and enjoyable. However, there is a chance the cups will leave a red or purple mark on the skin, which will fade within a few days.

Cupping can help with:
• Areas of numbness or tingling
• Respiratory conditions: bronchitis, asthma, common cold
• Chronic pain and pain management
• Frozen shoulder
• Complications from old injuries

One 20 minute session$40

Note: There is no extra charge for cupping if booking an acupuncture or massage therapy treatment.
