Traditional Chinese Medicine

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a comprehensive form of healthcare that has been utilized for centuries. Within its philosophy, humans are seen as a microcosm of nature – it views a person as an ecosystem with a terrain to be mapped out. Modern research into acupuncture and the use of herbal remedies show positive clinical results in improving well-being. The understanding of Channel Theory (also known as meridians) is an interwoven network of pathways that connect organs and tissues for normal physiology and disease. These Channels influence the physiological processes of the body by circulating a primal force known as Qi. What you can expect in a TCM treatment is a thorough intake of your chief concerns, health history and a review of the body’s systems.

The following therapies are used based on a patient’s diagnosis:

Acupuncture – the insertion of a sterile single-use needle on points of the body to activate an immune response and stimulate Qi.

Herbal Supplementation – Chinese herbs are combined into formulas specific to a patient’s diagnosis. Some herbs are nutritive- more like foods- that supplement the diet, while others have higher concentrations of compounds used medicinally.

Moxibustion – traditionally burns an herb known as Artemisia around acupuncture points- however, it produces quite a bit of smoke. Premio-10 Moxa is a modern tool replicating the same unique infrared light spectrum and electromagnetic radiation (energy carrying waves) to activate the body’s thermoreceptors. Scientifically shown to encourage muscle relaxation, diminish stiffness, increase blood circulation and stimulate the immune system.

Cupping – application of glass cups, using fire to create suction, on the back and legs of the body. Improves local and systemic circulation, decreases pain and treats deeper layers of connective tissue.

TuiNa – a style of ‘massage’ with unique techniques to circulate Qi, Blood and Body Fluids. Clothes do not need to be removed and oils are not used.

GuaSha – known as ‘skin-scrapping’ helps separate fascial adhesion by gently ‘scrapping’ along muscle fibres with a medical-grade stainless steel tool. It stimulates the lymph system, removes painful stagnation, improves circulation and clears excess heat from the body.
