Nicky Poole (She/Her) E-RYT~500 YACEP

I was born in Aotearoa (New Zealand), and have now settled in Tkaronto (Toronto) where I live with my two sons and my husband.

My embodied movement practice flows through the veins of the Prana Flow lineage created by Shiva Rea whom I have studied with since 2006. Alongside two decades of yoga training – I enjoy studies with the Axis Syllabus community in non-linear movement modalities. Once travel resumes again, I also hope to continue my traditional practice of the indigenous martial art of Kerala I’ve been initiated into called Kalarippayat.

To better understand ‘modern yoga’, my focus has shifted over the years towards the emerging academic field of yogic studies – specifically studying the tantric and medieval roots of yoga and the evolution of yoga in the 20th century. In 2019 I completed the Yoga Studies Program at the University of London, and I continue part-time through the Yogic Studies platform with ongoing research into the diverse historical traditions of yoga.

I have worn many hats over the past twenty years: as a studio owner in both Vietnam and Canada, and lead teacher trainer for hundreds of students in teacher training programs. In 2020, I sold my shares in my brick and mortar studio and began a new yoga adventure with the creation of Leelapod – a digital yoga platform, alongside YuMee Chung and David Choy.

I am thrilled to be returning to YogaSpace as faculty on the 300 hour teacher training to offer an in depth dive into the Art of Teaching. This is a very special studio where I happily taught for many years, and has continued to support me in countless ways.
