RIVA BANH

Since 2017 my yoga practice has evolved from being strongly physical, to an injury recovery activity, to one of mindfulness. These days, stepping on my mat is about putting the outside world on pause and tuning inwards to listen to my body and my voice - no one else’s.

In 2023, I left the corporate world to find meaningful work that resonated with my values. I was taking yoga classes and practicing on my own when I began creating my own sequences and teaching my friends over zoom. I loved it but was humbled by the challenge and I wanted to learn about the how and why.

I enrolled in the 200 hour teacher training program at Yogaspace in early 2024. Upon graduating, I began teaching community classes at the studio and spent much of my time there. When I wasn’t teaching I was taking classes and I was strongly driven to keep learning. So I enrolled in the 300 hour program. I became trauma informed and I now teach Yin yoga. I also teach Chakra Kriya Yoga and have earned the honour of being my teacher’s chosen substitute when she is away. Through my dedicated time here at the studio I've experienced yoga as a way of life that aligns with my values. Practicing and sharing it gives my life depth and meaning.

I currently teach Classical Hatha, Chakra Kriya, Vinyasa and Yin yoga at several studio’s throughout the GTA including Yogaspace. My teaching is informed by my lived experiences and I strive to effectively share what I have learned from my teachers. My classes are grounded through the breath. I hope they are as much fun as they are challenging. They are about building strength, resilience, and they are an invitation to explore your practice, and your self without the expectations and preconceptions of the outside world.
